The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
