The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the declining star, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
