And the Thamud belied the warnings. 23 They said, "Should we follow only one person among us. We shall be clearly in error and in trouble (if we do so). 24 Hath the remembrance been given unto him alone among us? Nay, but he is a rash liar. 25 (We told Our Messenger): “Tomorrow they shall know who is the insolent liar. 26 Verily, We are sending the she-camel as a test for them. So watch them [O Salih (Saleh)], and be patient! 27 And let them know that the water [of their wells] is to be divided between them, with each share of water equitably apportioned." 28 But they called to their companion, and he took a sword in hand, and hamstrung (her). 29 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 30 Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky, and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen. 31 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 32 The people of Lot rejected the warnings. 33 Verily We! We sent upon them a gravel-storm save the household of Lut; them We delivered at early dawn. 34 As a favour from Us. Thus We recompense him who giveth thanks. 35 And assuredly he had warned them of Our grasp, but: they doubted the warnings. 36 and even demanded that he give up his guests [to them]: whereupon We deprived them of their sight [and thus told them, as it were]: "Taste, then, the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded!" 37 Early on the morrow an abiding Punishment seized them: 38 We said, "Suffer Our torment of which you were warned". 39 And indeed, We have made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 40
