The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 facing one another. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 and banana trees, 29 and shade extended, 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
