The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 all the angels and all the inspiration [ever granted to man] ascend unto Him [daily,] in a day the length whereof is [like] fifty thousand years… 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 but We see it near. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 except those that pray 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's torment 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 who guard their privates 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
