Said the Chiefs of the people of Pharaoh: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed. 109 Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?" 110 They said (unto Pharaoh): Put him off (a while) - him and his brother - and send into the cities summoners, 111 to bring together at the Pharaohs court all the skillful magicians. 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and said: 'Shall we have a reward if we win?' 113 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 114 The magicians asked Moses, "Will you throw your staff first or shall we?" 115 He said, “You throw”; when they threw, they cast a magic spell upon the people’s eyes and terrified them, and they brought a great magic. 116 And we revealed unto Musa: cast down thy rod. And lo! it was swallowing up that which they had feigned. 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and what they did became null. 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the universe, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 "I will have your hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, and have you all crucified." 124 They answered: "Verily, unto our Sustainer do we turn 125 "The only reason you have to hate us is that we believed in the signs of our Lord as they came to us. O our Lord, give us sufficient endurance that we may die submitting (to You)." 126
