In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 We shall soon entrust to you a message heavy (with solemnity). 5 Surely in the watches of the night the soul is most receptive and words more telling. 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Lord of the eastern and western regions, with due sincerity. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god except Him. Take Him for your Guardian. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But the Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a grievous punishment. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 on which the heaven will split apart, and His promise is done. 18 Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever will, let him take a Path to His Lord! 19
