The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 and purify your robes, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
