The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
