The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And your clothing purify 4 and defilement flee! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And children present [with him] 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
