The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 Of the mighty tiding 2 About which they have been differing? 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the mountains as projections (thereon)? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 made the night as a covering, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 for the rebellious ones and they will live therein for ages. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
