He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted and purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
