He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing and joyous 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
