He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 to a rich man, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olives and date palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
