Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 The night as it advances, 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 Enter among My servants 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
