The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
Almighty God's Truth.
