Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
