The Town (Al-Balad)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 and shown him the two highways [of good and evil]? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
