The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 Consider the day as it reveals the world, 3 And [by] the night when it covers it 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 Then they denied him and they killed it. So their Lord destroyed them because of their sin, and made them equal in destruction (i.e. all grades of people, rich and poor, strong and weak, etc.)! 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
End of Surah: The Sun (Al-Shams). Sent down in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
