In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 Or a little more, and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 So how will you save yourselves, if you disbelieve, on a day that will turn children old? 17 The heaven shall rend asunder thereby; His promise is ever brought to fulfillment. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
