Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the luminious Book. 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. 12 But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority. 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 We gave these as an inheritance to other people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29
