۞ Gather together those who did wrong and their comrades and that which they were wont to worship 22 Beside Allah, and lead them on to the path of the Flaming Fire. 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 [They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?" 25 Nay, but that Day they shall surrender, 26 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 27 Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" 28 They will say, "No! It was you who would not believe -- 29 And we had over you no authority, but ye were a people exorbitant. 30 So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: (now) we shall surely taste; 31 For we had led you astray. In fact we ourselves were astray." 32 So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another. 33 This is how We deal with the criminals. 34 For they, when they were told that there is no god except Allah, would puff themselves up with Pride, 35 And to say: What! shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet? 36 Not in the least. He has brought the truth and confirmed the other messengers. 37 Behold, you will indeed taste grievous suffering [in the life to come,] 38 You will only be recompensed according to your deeds.” 39 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 40 shall have a known provision -- 41 Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured 42 In the Gardens of delight, 43 sitting face to face upon couches, 44 There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring, 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated. 47 They will have with them loving wives with big black and white eyes 48 As if they were eggs, safely hidden. 49 Then they will turn to one another and question one another. 50 The speaker among them said, “I had a companion.” 51 who used to ask, 'Do you really believe that 52 [that] after we have died and become mere dust and bones we shall, forsooth, be brought to judgment?"' 53 He said: 'Will you look down?' 54 So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin, 56 And had it not been for the favour of my Lord, I too had been of those haled forth (to doom). 57 What, do we then not die 58 [again,] beyond our previous death, and that we shall never [again] be made to suffer? 59 Verily this is the supreme achievement! 60 For such a reward should the workers perform. 61 Is that better by way of hospitality or the Zaqqum tree, 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 (Zaqqum) is a tree which grows from the deepest part of hell, 64 its fruit [as repulsive] as satans' heads; 65 They will eat and fill their bellies with it, 66 Then they will have on top of it a mixture of boiling water. 67 And once again: Verily, the blazing fire is their ultimate goal 68 Indeed they found their fathers astray. 69 But they make haste (to follow) in their footsteps. 70 Before them a multitude of people of olden times had erred, 71 And verily We sent among them warners. 72 Then see the nature of the consequence for those warned, 73 Except the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, and true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 74
