Said the Council of the unbelievers of his people, who cried lies to the encounter of the world to come, and to whom We had given ease in the present' life, 'This is naught but a mortal like yourselves, who eats of what you eat and drinks of what you drink. 33 If ye were to obey a mortal like yourselves, then, lo! ye surely would be losers. 34 Does he promise you that after you die and become dust and bones you will be brought back to life again? 35 ۞ What you are promised is indeed far-fetched. 36 “There is nothing except our life of this world, we die and we live, and we are not to be raised.” 37 He is just a man who invents a lie about God; we cannot believe in him." 38 (The prophet) said: "O my Lord! help me: for that they accuse me of falsehood." 39 God replied, "After a very short time they will certainly regret for their deeds." 40 Then the Blast overtook them with justice, and We made them as rubbish of dead leaves (floating on the stream of Time)! So away with the people who do wrong! 41 Then after them We brought forth other generations. 42 No nation can live beyond its allotted time, or lag behind. 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Whenever a Messenger came to his people they rejected him, calling him a liar. Thereupon, We made each people to follow the other (to its doom), reducing them to mere tales (of the past). Scourged be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Musa (Moses) and his brother Harun (Aaron), with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and manifest authority, 45 unto Pharaoh and his great ones; but these behaved with arrogance, for they were people wont to glorify [only] themselves. 46 They said, "Should we believe two men like ourselves while their people are for us in servitude?" 47 They called them liars and consequently were destroyed. 48 We gave the Book to Moses so that perhaps they may have guidance. 49 We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and gave them a refuge on a hillside where there was a hollow and a spring. 50
