(The nation of) Aad belied their Messengers. 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns, and all that exists). 127 Do you build over each high place a sign to amuse yourselves! 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 "And when you seize, seize you as tyrants? 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 I fear for you the chastisement of an Awesome Day." 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
