In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O THOU enwrapped one! 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 half the night, or a little less 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 We shall soon entrust to you a message heavy (with solemnity). 5 Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. 6 Indeed you have a lot of matters during the day. 7 But [whether by night or by day,] remember thy Sustainer's name, and devote thyself unto Him with utter devotion. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you – the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! 19
