And We sent to Thamood their brother Salih: 'Serve you God!' And behold, they were two parties, that were disputing one with another. 45 He urged them, "O my people, why do you wish to hasten on the evil rather than the good? Why do you not ask forgiveness of God, so that you may be shown mercy?" 46 They said, "We consider you an evil omen, and your companions"; he said, "Your evil omen is with Allah - in fact you people have fallen into trial." 47 And there were nine persons in the city who used to cause turmoil in the land and did not wish reform. 48 Swearing by Allah they said to one another, "We will indeed attack him and his family at night, and then say to his heir, 'We were not present at the time of slaying of this household, and indeed we are truthful.'" 49 They plotted and planned, but We too planned, even while they perceived it not. 50 See, then, what the consequences of their plan were. We destroyed them and their people utterly, all together. 51 See, yonder are their dwellings empty and in ruins because they did wrong. Lo! herein is indeed a portent for a people who have knowledge. 52 And We delivered those who believed and were wont to avoid disobeying (Allah). 53 We also sent Lot, and recall when he told his people: "Do you commit shameless acts with your eyes open? 54 You lust after men in place of women. You are indeed a stolid people." 55 ۞ But his people's only answer was this: "Expel [Lot and] Lot's followers from your township! Verily, they are folk who make themselves out to be pure!" 56 So We saved him and his family except his wife who was destined to stay behind. 57 And We rained down upon them a rain. It was an evil rain for those who had already been warned. 58
