The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
