He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble and pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and herbage 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
