AND CALL to mind, through this divine writ, Abraham. Behold, he was a man of truth, [already] a prophet 41 When he said to his father: "O my father! Why do you worship that which hears not, sees not and cannot avail you in anything? 42 O My father! verily there hath come to me of the knowledge which hath not come unto thee; so follow me, and I shall guide thee to a path even. 43 Why do you worship Satan, O father? Verily Satan was disobedient to Ar-Rahman. 44 O my father, I fear lest a punishment from Ar-Rahman should befall you, and you should become a friend of the Devil." 45 He said: Rejectest thou my gods, O Abraham? If thou cease not, I shall surely stone thee. Depart from me a long while! 46 He said, 'Peace be upon thee! I will ask my Lord to forgive thee; surely He is ever gracious to me. 47 But I shall withdraw from you all and from whatever you invoke instead of God, and shall invoke my Sustainer [alone]: it may well be that my prayer [for thee] will not remain unanswered by my Sustainer." 48 So, when he went apart from them and that they were serving, apart from God, We gave him Isaac and Jacob, and each We made a Prophet; 49 And We gave them Our mercy, and assigned for them a true and high repute. 50
