He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him you attend; 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and who has fear of God, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his consort, his sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
