The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 Have you seen one who prevents 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 or orders piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
