The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 So, (O Prophet), persevere with gracious perseverance. 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 but We see it near. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: 14 But nay! for lo! it is the fire of hell 15 Eager to roast; 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 Those who are regular in their prayers. 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 [not giving way to their desires] with any but their spouses - that is, those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock]: for then, behold, they are free of all blame, 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. 31 And those who keep their trusts and covenants; 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
