Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 labouring, weary, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 Goblets set, 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And carpets spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
