He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted and purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 Olives and dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
