The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. These are the verses of the Book, and a Qur'an luminous. 1 Often will those who disbelieve wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and for aspiration to involve them in play – so they will shortly come to know. 3 And never did We destroy a town but it had a term made known. 4 Every nation can only live for the time appointed for it. 5 (The unbelievers have said), "You to whom the Quran has been revealed are insane. 6 “Why do you not bring angels to us, if you are truthful?” 7 But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then they will not be reprieved. 8 We have sent down this Exposition, and We will guard it. 9 And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples. 10 And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him. 11 Thus do We let it (polytheism and disbelief) enter into the hearts of the Mujrimun [criminals, polytheists, pagans, etc. (because of their mockery at the Messengers)]. 12 That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away. 13 And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend, 14 They will say all the same: "Our eyes were dazed (and clouded over). We were a people ensorcelled." 15
