A crowd of earlier generations 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cool, neither goodly; 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 from replacing you by others like yourselves or changing your forms and re-creating you in forms that you know nothing of. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? 63 Is it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Is it you that originated its tree, or are We the Originator? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
