The Mountain (Al-Toor)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 on fine parchment; 3 And the House frequented, 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 and by the swelling sea: 6 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. 9 The mountains move and fly away, 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 and who indulged in false disputes against (God's revelations). 12 The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. 20 And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith – We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin. 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 saying, "We were afraid while in the world. 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” 28
