(The nation of) Aad belied their Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 and when you strike you strike like tyrants? 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has bestowed on you what you know, 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us if you warn us or do not warn. 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 140
