Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf. Ha. Ya. 'Ain. Sad. 1 This is the story of the blessing of your Lord to His servant Zachariah. 2 Recall what time he cried unto his Lord with a cry secret. 3 He said: "Lord! My bones have grown feeble and my head is glistening with age; yet, never have my prayers to You, my Lord, been unfruitful. 4 Indeed, I fear my kinsmen who will succeed me, for my wife is barren. Grant me a kinsman 5 to be my heir and to be the heir [of the blessings] of the House of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord, acceptable to you." 6 [He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name." 7 He said: O my Lord! when shall I have a son, and my wife is barren, and I myself have reached indeed the extreme degree of old age? 8 Answered [the angel]: "Thus it is; [but] thy Sustainer says, 'This is easy for Me - even as I have created thee aforetime out of nothing'". 9 He said: "O Lord, give me a token." "Though sound," He answered, "you will not talk to any one for three nights running." 10 So he came forth unto his people from the Sanctuary, then he made signal to them, 'Give you glory at dawn and evening.' 11 (To his son came the command): "O Yahya! take hold of the Book with might": and We gave him Wisdom even as a youth, 12 and a tenderness from Us, and purity; and he was godfearing, 13 and dutiful towards his parents and was not haughty or disobedient. 14 'Peace be upon him, the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he is raised up alive!' 15
