The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few of later ages, 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and gushing water, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
