The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 About the great tidings! 2 About which they differ? 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 except boiling water and pus 25 Requital corresponding. 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
