Al-Zukhruf 5 of 7

We sent Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his nobles. He said, "I am the messenger of the Lord of the Universe," 46 But when he brought to them Our signs they laughed at them, 47 And not an Ayah (sign, etc.) We showed them but it was greater than its fellow, and We seized them with torment, in order that they might turn [from their polytheism to Allah's Religion (Islamic Monotheism)]. 48 And they said: magician! supplicate thy Lord for us for that which He hath covenanted with thee; verily we shall let ourselves be guided. 49 But when We eased them of the torment, behold! they broke their word. 50 And Pharaoh issued a call to his people, saying: "O my people! Does not the dominion over Egypt belong to me, since all these running waters flow at my feet? Can you not, then, see [that I am your lord supreme]? 51 Am I not better than this contemptible man who can hardly make his meaning clear? 52 Why have no armlets of gold been given him, or angels sent down successively with him' 53 Thus he made light (of the matter) to his people, and they obeyed him. They were certainly wicked. 54 But when they roused Our anger We inflicted retributive punishment and drowned them all, 55 And made them a precedent and example for posterity. 56
