Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
HaMeem 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Thus it was. And [then] We made another people heirs [to what they had left,] 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
