Mary (Maryam)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. 'Ayn. Sad. 1 Commemorate the beneficence of your Lord on Zachariah, His devotee, 2 when he cried to his Lord in secret. 3 saying: 'O my Lord, my bones are enfeebled, and my head glows silver with age. Yet, never Lord, have I been unblessed in prayer to You. 4 "Now I fear (what) my relatives (and colleagues) (will do) after me: but my wife is barren: so give me an heir as from Thyself,- 5 Who will be heir to me, and heir to the house of Jacob; and make him obedient to You, O Lord." 6 'O Zachariah, We give you good tidings of a son, and he shall be called John (Yahya); a name We have never given before' 7 He said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son, when my wife is barren and I have grown quite decrepit from old age?" 8 He replied: 'It shall be so; your Lord says: "It is easy for Me, indeed, I created you before time when you were not a thing." 9 He said, 'Lord, appoint to me some sign.' Said He, 'Thy sign is that thou shall not speak to men, though being without fault, three nights.' 10 Thereupon he came out of the sanctuary unto his people and signified to them [by gestures]: "Extol His limitless glory by day and by night!" 11 To John We said, "Hold fast the Book," and while he was still a child, We bestowed upon him wisdom, 12 And piety (for all creatures) as from Us, and purity: He was devout, 13 honoring his parents, being neither arrogant nor rebellious. 14 And peace is upon him the day he was born, and the day he will taste death, and the day he will be raised alive. 15
