The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise, and warn. 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And your clothing purify 4 and defilement flee! 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
