In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. 'Ayn. Sad. 1 A mention of the mercy of thy Lord unto His servant Zachariah. 2 when he called upon his Lord in secret, 3 He said: "Lord! My bones have grown feeble and my head is glistening with age; yet, never have my prayers to You, my Lord, been unfruitful. 4 “And I fear my relatives after me and my wife is barren therefore bestow upon me from Yourself one who will take up my work.” 5 Who will be heir to me, and heir to the house of Jacob; and make him obedient to You, O Lord." 6 'O Zachariah, We give you good tidings of a son, and he shall be called John (Yahya); a name We have never given before' 7 He said: "My Lord! How can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have reached the extreme old age." 8 He said: "So (it will be). Your Lord says; It is easy for Me. Certainly I have created you before, when you had been nothing!" 9 He said, "My Lord, grant me a sign!" He said, "Your sign will be that you will not speak to anyone for three successive days and nights, although sound in body." 10 Zachariah came out to his people from place of worship and inspired them to glorify the Lord both in the morning and evening. 11 O Yahya! take hold of the Book with strength, and We granted him wisdom while yet a child 12 We gave him compassion and purity. He was a pious human being, 13 and full of piety towards his parents; and never was he haughty or rebellious. 14 And Peace be unto him the day he was born and the day he dieth and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
