۞ And We had certainly given Abraham his sound judgement before, and We were of him well-Knowing 51 Recall, when he said to his father and his people: "What are these images to which you are devoutly clinging?" 52 They said, 'We found our fathers serving them.' 53 He said: Verily ye and your fathers were in plain error. 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 "And by Allah, I have a plan for your idols - after ye go away and turn your backs".. 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 They said: Have you done this to our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He said: "Nay, this was done by - this is their biggest one! ask them, if they can speak intelligently!" 63 Then they turned to themselves and said: Surely you yourselves are the unjust; 64 Again they were inverted upon their heads; saying, “You know well that these do not speak.” 65 He said: 'Would you then worship that, instead of Allah, which can neither help nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? 67 They exclaimed: "Burn him, and [thereby] succour your gods, if you are going to do [anything]!" 68 "Turn cold, O fire," We said, "and give safety to Abraham." 69 They had sought to do evil to him, but We caused them to be the worst losers, 70 And We saved him and Lot [and brought them] to a land which We had blessed for all people, 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 And We made them chiefs who guide by Our command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds and the right establishment of worship and the giving of alms, and they were worshippers of Us (alone). 73 AND UNTO Lot, too, We vouchsafed sound judgment and knowledge [of right and wrong,] and saved him from that community which was given to deeds of abomination. [We destroyed those people - for,] verily, they were people lost in evil, depraved 74 and We admitted him into Our mercy; he was of the righteous. 75
