O apostles! eat of the good things and do good; surely I know what you do. 51 “And indeed this religion of yours is one religion only and I am your Lord, therefore fear Me.” 52 Yet they divided themselves into factions, each rejoicing in what they had. 53 So leave thou them in their perplexity for a time. 54 What, do they think that We succour them with of wealth and children, 55 We are hastening to them of good things? Nay, they do not perceive. 56 Lo! those who go in awe for fear of their Lord. 57 And those who believe in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of their Lord, 58 and who do not ascribe divinity to aught but their Sustainer, 59 And those who give what they give (in alms) while their hearts are full of fear that to their Lord they must return, 60 to God, these are the ones who really compete with each other in virtuous deeds and are the foremost ones in the task. 61 On no soul do We place a burden greater than it can bear: before Us is a record which clearly shows the truth: they will never be wronged. 62 Nay, but their hearts are in perplexity as to this, and they have deeds besides that that they are doing. 63 Till when We grasp their luxurious ones with the punishment, behold! they supplicate. 64 (We shall say): 'Do not groan today, surely you shall receive no help from Us' 65 For when My revelations were read out to you, you turned back on your heels and fled 66 In scorn thereof. Nightly did ye rave together. 67 Have they not pondered over the word of God? Has something come to them that did not come to their forefathers? 68 Or did they not recognise their Messenger and so denied him? 69 Or do they say, "He is possessed"? Nay, he has brought them the Truth, but most of them hate the Truth. 70 If truth had followed their whims and desires, heavens and earth and all that lives in them would have been brought to ruin. Rather We have brought them their Reminder. Yet they keep avoiding their Reminder. 71 Or dost thou ask them for tribute? Yet the tribute of thy Lord is better, and He is the best of providers. 72 You are surely calling them to the right path. 73 And most surely those who do not believe in the hereafter are deviating from the way. 74 ۞ Though We had mercy on them and relieved them of the harm afflicting them, they still would wander blindly on in their contumacy. 75 We already seized them with the chastisement, yet they abased not themselves to their Lord nor were they humble; 76 Until when We shall open upon them a portal of severe torment, and lo! thereat they are desparing. 77
