Verily Jonah is one of the apostles. 139 He ran away to the laden ship, 140 and cast lots, and he was among the losers (of the lots that were cast). 141 And a fish swallowed him, and he was reproaching himself. 142 And had he not been of those who exalt Allah, 143 He would have tarried in the belly thereof till the Day when they are raised. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a desert shore while he was sick; 145 And We caused a plant of gourd to grow over him. 146 And We had sent him to a hundred thousand: rather they exceeded. 147 And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time. 148 AND NOW ask them to enlighten thee: Has thy Sustainer daughters, whereas they would have [only] sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females, while they were witnesses? 150 Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say, 151 Allah hath begotten. Allah! verily they tell a lie. 152 "He has chosen daughters in preference to sons"! 153 “What is the matter with you? What sort of a judgement you impose!” 154 Then will you not be reminded? 155 Or have you a clear authority? 156 Bring your book if what you say is true. 157 They have established a kinship between Allah and the angels; and the angels know well that these people will be arraigned (as culprits). 158 Exalted is Allah above what they describe, 159 but not so the true servants of God, 160 for, verily, neither you [blasphemers] nor the objects of your worship 161 Can tempt anyone to rebel against Him. 162 except him who shall roast in the Blazing Fire. 163 None of us is there, but has a known station; 164 "And we are verily ranged in ranks (for service); 165 we are they that give glory. 166 And there were those who said, 167 If we had but a reminder from the men of old 168 Surely we would have been the bondmen of God sincere. 169 But (now) they disbelieve in it, so they will come to know. 170 And, verily, Our Word has gone forth of old for Our slaves, the Messengers, 171 That they would certainly be assisted, 172 And that Our hosts, they verily would be the victors. 173 So turn thou from them for a while, 174 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 175 Do they want to suffer Our torment immediately? 176 When it lights in their courtyard, how evil will be the morning of them that are warned! 177 Leave them alone for a while, 178 And watch; they will come to know soon. 179 Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe. 180 And peace be upon the Envoys; 181 and praise be to God, the Lord of all the Worlds. 182
