Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
